Atlanta Hawks All Time Roster

STARTING LINEUP :

C. Dikembe Mutombo

P.F. Bob Petit

S.F. Dominique Wilkins

S.G. Pete Maravich

P.G. Lenny Wilkens

BENCH :

C. Clyde Lovellette

P.F. Kevin Willis

S.F. Cliff Hagan

S.G. Joe Johnson

P.G. Mookie Blaylock

S.G. Lou Hudson

P.G. Doc Rivers

CENTERS :

At center I chose Dikembe Mutombo, one of the best defensive C ever and the heart of the team in the 90’s. His back up has to be Clyde Lovellette who was one of the best centers in the league in the 50’s/60’s. Definitely the second best true center the Hawks ever had.

POWER FORWARDS :

At PF I chose Bob Petit, who led the team to his only ring. I chose Kevin Willis as his back up, who was Wilkins’ lieutenant in the 80’s. Very good defender.

SMALL FORWARDS :

The starting SF has to be Dominique Wilkins of course, and I chose Cliff Hagan as his back up, Cliff was the second best player in the team who won the only ring of the franchise history.

SHOOTING GUARDS :

At SG it’s Pete Maravich, no need to explain why. I chose Joe Johnson as his back up. Joe has proved to be a decent leader in his Hawks years, I think he deserves to be here.

POINT GUARDS :

The starting PG is of course Lenny Wilkens. Who was also the Atlanta coach in the 90’s. His back up is Mookie Blaylock, great defensive PG in the 90’s. Very good player, the band “Pearl Jam” were even called “Mookie Blaylock” at first before they chose their actual name !

11th & 12th SPOTS :

For the 11th and 12th spot it was hard to choose, cause so many talented players played in that franchise… I eventually chose Glen “Doc” Rivers, who was the PG of the 80’s Wilkins team. Arguably the best Hawks team ever, and Doc was a great defensive PG too. And Lou Hudson a great scorer in the 70’s.

(I could not find any video of Lou Hudson (hard to believe but..) so I picked this video of Maravich’s commercials, we can see Lou at the end of the second one)

Other players like Zelmo Beaty, Spud Webb, Steve Smith or Moses Malone could have been metioned too. The reason why I didn’t pick Malone by the way is because Moses didn’t play enough in Atlanta to be in that roster IMO. And even if he was still good, he was not the dominant player that he used to be.

The Hawks have had some classic players. Nice team that combines shooting and defence, and you know Dominique will provide the showtime highlights :).
